Parting is such sweet sorrow

Last week I moved my resident stud Vintage Thor to his forever home in Wintersville, Ohio. He served me well and left me with some great prospects to carry on his impressive bloodlines. I didn't think I would be as emotional as I was when he was loaded in my friend Mandy's truck. My old friend looked at me with his eye's as if to say " So this is it huh ?"

Damn that tugged at my heart !!!

I know that his life will be more fulfilling where he is at now seeing he will probably be offered new females to copulate with.

Here at my kennels he had done all that he could do , seeing that I have kept back his daughters and his own son has ascended to the position of resident stud.

The breeder in me knew that it was time for the old fella to move on but the dog lover which resides in this same body cringed at the thought of a loyal companion changing addresses.

Well I wish Thor and Mandy good times.... and may he serve her better than even he did me ...

What's new and available @ Celebrity Cane Corso

It's been forever since I wrote on this blog. It's not like there hasn't been things to write about nor announcements to make. I guess I've been too busy facebooking and tweeting the information to post here and that's just wrong ... I promise to right this wrong by adding content in the new year.

The holiday season found me with three litters. Celebrity's Cody x Ducksworth's Buddur and a repeat breeding of Celebrity's Halle BlackBerry x Vintage's Thor.

Of the three only two yielded puppies I'm willing to part with. Celebrity's Eboni and BStrong's Hard Nard produced a male I'm naming Drazen in honor of Croatian Basketball great Drazen Petrovic.

Celebrity's Zeus from my first Thor and Halle Blackberry litter is 125 lbs. @ 11 months old . I'm not sure if he will be heir apparent to stud supremacy here @ Celebrity Cane Corso Kennels but I'm going to give him the opportunity to show his worth as a producer.

When you find a dog that you can call your own ... you are a blessed being . In Gambino I have found the dog that fills the void left when my beloved Don Gotti went to travel The Rainbow Bridge . Some people think I waited to make this claim when I produced a dog that looked good enough to flaunt . That conclusion is incorrect. I had to wait to find a dog that complimented my personality . Gambino not only is a looker but a trusted companion that doesn't mind sharing my space with respect and also has the presence that makes me comfortable to consider him a protecter. People that have shared their life with this special kind of canine know exactly what I'm talking about.

Well the last few days around here have been hard but i thought it was only right that I mentioned the good news we have @ Celebrity Cane Corso.
The Daisy and Sooner puppies are adorable and thriving.
I would be lying if I said that these pups rivaled " The Magnificent 7" she produced with Sooner's half brother Johnson's Hannibal but they are very impressive . here is a picture of Celebrity's Kingston from The Magnificent 7 litter

I guess that I'm biased about " The Magnificent 7" because of my recent loss of Aubrey The Crimson Queen but I'm sure these pups will take their own place and grow into incredible specimen as well.

If you have been keeping up with my breeding program you can see that Sooner has been quite the busy boy around here. I had been producing so many Thor bred pups I thought I would give the other males a chance to show their stuff .
Sooner has been consistant in what he throws . The jet black puppies have been very well thought of . I like some of them so much I haven't been willing to part with them and kept them for myself. Yeah today was a sad day around here at Celebrity Cane Corso. One of my favorites died from complications during birthing. Celebrity's Aubrey wasn't just a breeding bitch ... her breeding was more than a surprise .

It took her 2 years to ever have a heat cycle . When I saw that she was in season I was surprised and rejoiced with the thought that I would be able to breed her to Thor . Everyone had been asking me about that breeding and this was the one breeding I felt would put people in awe . This is a magnificent breed and I felt this was breeding would have been my stamp .

An old person once told me if you wanna make GOD laugh tell him what you plan to do ...

In all honesty I was content with her as a pet . Seeing she wasn't having heat cycles I relished her nutty escape antics and had accepted that she was just going to be the beautiful chick in the backyard that made my kennels respectable and good to look at .

Her pedigree was awesome ... she was everything I wanted to always make here at Celebrity Cane Corso square short muzzle rare red color ,wided bodied and even tempered. Boasting of all the dogs I found to be desired ... Georgio , Armani , Gotti, Nino, Nero just to name a few ...

If there is such a thing as a dog heaven I hope they welcome her wild fun loving self with open arms .. she was to be loved and admired

Thanks for the pictures of Champagne. I love to see new pictures of Molly's siblings and hear how they're doing.
I was finally getting around to writing back when I saw your next e-mail with the sad news about Don Gotti.
I'm sorry for your loss. It can be just like losing a family member. I consider my dogs to be my adopted family.
My wife and I have been fortunate that the dogs we've had before, have lived long and healthy lives.
We got to enjoy each of them 10 to 14 years but it makes it even harder when they go.
When we lost of our last Rottie, it was so painful, we were hesitant to ever get another dog.
It took 2 years before we decided that we had to have a dog in our lives.
Inevitably, there will pain and loss in the future, but we can't pass up all the love that a dog brings into the present.
I'm thankful for your Gotti too - without him, we wouldn't have our Molly.

You should know by now to be cautious when asking for any new pictures.
I love showing off pictures of our girl and I might clog your e-mail inbox.
Let's start with 2 'old' pictures to see Molly's progress.
Back when Molly was only a few months old, she has loved this one chair.
From the time she was first able to climb up into it, she has always preferred to sleep in it.
Now, that was not a problem when she was only 4 months old...

But as you can see, at 1 and a half years old and about 85 pounds, it's somewhat comical...

Molly is such a good dog. She's happy and loves to play with a ball or a Frisbee or rubber toy, etc.

I'm so glad my wife got a Rottie a few months after we got Molly so she always has someone to play with.
They get along great and are constantly playing tug-o-war with something - a ball, sock, each other's ear...

When they're not chewing on a toy or each other, they also like to dig holes in the back yard.
One hole looked like they were making an escape tunnel to China.

(It looks like they're admiring their work or they expect something to come crawling out)

Sometimes, they just 'chill' with each other - they're really good friends.
They like sitting up high on the stairs inside looking down on us...

Or sitting up on the hill in the back yard looking out on the neighborhood.

Molly has only been with us for a little more than a year, but we can't imagine being without her.
She's so friendly - everyone laughs about how she wags her whole body when she meets them.
And boy is she smart. She'll come and tell us when Ripley is doing something she shouldn't be doing.
And she's learned a strategy that works if Ripley won't give her a toy.
She goes to get another toy, chews it enthusiastically by Ripley and then 'accidentally' drops it.
Ripley lunges for it and then Molly gets the one she wants.
She's learned many other 'tricks'. Maybe next e-mail, I'll put together some pictures of them all.

The Passing On Of A Great Friend...

I'm sad to announce the death of my friend and canine companion Celebrity's Don Gotti .

All that have had the pleasure of meeting him realize why it is such a dark day at my home. He surpassed all the expectations I had of him. I was new to this wonderful breed and Gotti was the reason why I went from casual pet owner to full fledged corso enthusiast.
If there is such a thing as pets going to heaven I wish him well on his journey . Believe me when I say I hope to see him again for on this earthly plane he made our time together so enjoyable I would dig to spend eternity in that kind of company

I have to give a shout out to my sons" The Crew" Miles , Marcus and Cortney Jr. on a job wel done this summer . Not only did they have to put up with my shit but the dogs as well everyday from May till August.

The kennel has provided them with a routine and a sense of responsibility. The assistance has been priceless ... of course it hasn't been for free they all earned some loot for their efforts.

This couple drove to Cleveland from Arkansas to add their new baby Trina to their already Celebrity Cane Corso Clan . A few months ago they purchased a blue male from me " Jesse James ". They loved him so much tye couldn't wait to find him a future girlfriend. Trina is a beautiful black female that is the daughter of Gotti . She might possibly be one of his last puppies seeing Thor is putting it down like a porn star with all the females around here .

The Burnettes also own some of the cutest maltese doggies you will ever see. I keep telling them that one day they might have to make a decison about those fly furry puffs ... Trina is already looking at them like a snack!!!

I'm proud to say that Thor has been busier than a cat covering shhhhhhhhh breeding . I'm not just elated because I'm seeing my investment in him paying off but I'm really looking forward to the building on the foundation that Gotti has set up. Some folks might think it's a upgrade by using Thor . I'm not thinking that Gotti is obsolete at all I believe that his fine pedigree will only be enhanced when his offspring are mated with Thor . Right now I have two of his daughters bred and due later this month .

This week I purchased from Lebron James' brother Frankie " Wildwood' Nayla " whom came to my house in heat and bred just yesterday to Thor ...
like him she is half Italian.

That's right Thor is doing his thing ... but even though I'm happy to see my new dog showing me that he is not only a good investment but he has the drive to make a real difference in my bloodlines. I'm somewhat saddened for my favorite dog Gotti . He has been whining to do what he has done so many times for me .
It's so disheartening when people bring over their females to be bred and Gotti is in the house howling . What's an old stud to do right ?

Which Food do You Feed ?

When I place a dog in a new home one of the first questions I have to answer is what they should feed their new family addition. There was a time when I recommended what I would feed if I didn't have more than 8 dogs. Pro Plan , Eukanueba , Bil Jac ,Nutro Max , Natural , Wolf Cub and King were some of the foods I had tried but realized were not affordable . I steered my new puppy owners in the right RICH direction. I don't lead them down the high price aisle of the pet store for spend money sake . I tell them what I know You get outta your dog what you put into your dog .
It's one of the reasons I have upped my game .
I had been feeding my dogs Diamond Premium Dog Food , mostly because it was inexpensive and from reading the analysis it was equal so it seems to the leading high quality brands I thought were too overpriced for me to maintain my entire kennel on. Believe me when I tell you I was wrong very very wrong. Though Diamond was less expensive I found that I had to feed more in order to keep my dogs at the weight I was comfortable with so feeding more meant that 40 lbs bags of Diamond were disappearing quicker than the 37.5 lbs bag of say Pro Plan . My dogs weren't getting full usage of the food I know this because of the large quantities of poop I had to scoop each day... nothing is more frustrating than watching your money misused .I'm not writing this to dump on the folks at Diamond they do make a decent food and I practically raised my favorite dog Gotti on it ... I'm just saying there is so much better out there .

I've found a dog food that my dogs are really enjoying now and I was lucky to get in their breeder program Nutro Max . I've had less clean up and the dogs are looking thicker . I can't give complete credit to the folks at Nutro Max though I've been giving my dogs some green tripe. My good friend and fellow breeder Jordan Pittman turned me on to it and it's at a great price. Talk about work though Jordan brought me about 100lbs of this cow gut with a stank you wouldn't wish on an enemy and an ax ...
The dogs love it !!!

Last week I received a phone call that shook me to the core. A good friend and fellow Corso enthusiast Mandy informed me that she had an explosion in her house and all she could save was her husband and new baby from certain demise. She had to leave in her home Cleo ( formentino female ) and the litter of outstanding pups that were already spoken for .Plus if that wasn't enough of a loss Mandy had just purchased a Boerbeol female pup for a small fortune that her baby adored . Talk about bad things happening to good people ..man!!!

I reached out in the best way that I could and gifted her one of my girls that I was phasing out of my breeding program " Celebrity's Lucido" . Now not only does Mandy have a excellent dog but Lucy has found a very nice and well deserved retirement home.

Being a breeder is rewarding but don't believe that you are going to become a rich person doing it . Of course there is money to be made but if you broke down the amount of time effort and your own cash if you break even you are doing well.
I can't tell you how much money I have thrown into the wind at vets , food and supplies to keep my dogs healthy and sound. So this is no get rich quick scheme. This is an expensive hobby that has formed into a viable buisness. I have hopes that it becomes a truly profitable one but if not I'm happy with the progression I'm making with my dogs.

The real reward in breeding any dog is the chance to bring your chosen animal to the height of the standard .

While pursuing the perfection no breeder ever reaches ( truth be told there is no such thing as a perfect dog ... some might argue this thought ) the joy you see your puppies bring to people is priceless.

My first two Celebrity litters where born back to back ... Gotti had been doing his business and developing his stud potential with two females I owned .

One Scandifio's Gabby a gorgeous fawn female

and Baby Girl a seriously intimidating Black brindle female
that never really took to me and ended up with Alcor Cane Corso.
I placed many of these first pups with some of my famous friends and also puppy purchasers that trusted my fresh out the gate know how and took a chance on my pups.
I had two dogs that people kept passing on and the longer they stuck around the more I became fond of them accepted that they would be permanent fixtures in my life.

Daisy and Adebisi( named after the OZ character ) had the genetic make up to I wanted to use as the foundation of my kennels. The old american lines that Tony Scandy had nurtured and combination of the dogs that I had raised on my own and wanted the world to have an opportunity to enjoy .
Well both Adebisi and Daisy are all grown up now and have been bred. I'm anxious to see if what I envisioned produces the kinda corso that not only furthers the breed but puts my own personal stamp on them.

I want to send a super duper shout out to them for all the help they give me when it concerns the puppies during the holiday break.
They helped to keep the kennels extra clean and took extra time to help my newest addition " Celebrity's Bugsy " to get on deck with the house training .

I remember looking for a bullmastiff or a presa when my Rottweiler was getting long in the tooth and gray around the muzzle . I went to a trusted Vet friend of mine Dr. Morse and asked him if he knew of anyone having a litter. Just before he could answer me a person walked in the office with a blue male cane corso that made me think not again about the before mentioned breeds. I contacted a breeder named John Ogorek whom told me that he had sold his last blue male but he had a few dogs at his establishment that might be of interest to me . He had a two brindle males for sale and a black brindle girl. We discussed the price of the boys versus the girl . After our negotiations I realized I couldn't afford the price of the girl ( that girl ended up being Scandifio's Baby ( mother of champion Scandifio's Tito and excellent corso producer Scandifio's Epitome)

Between the two males that were in John's possession I chose the smaller of the two but he had a better muzzle than the larger brother.
When I took him to the vet to get his ears done and began walking him around my neighborhood I was asked several times was he a pit .One dude pulled up to me and had the nerve to ask me why i cut the ears and tail off my chocolate lab. That question took me over the edge I called John and complained that he must have sold me a less than purebred dog. He assured me that Gotti was what he told me and would take sometime to develop into the impressive canine he became . I put my trust in the breeder and ended up with quite the canine companion and stud dog .

I tell potential buyers when they contact me to be patient with their new corsos over feeding and speedy growth is not good for large breed puppies. They should be allowed to grow at their own pace .

A mastiff will be massive that's the nature of the breed .

What make a person a backyard breeder ?

I have my kennels set up in my back yard but do not consider myself a backyard breeder . If I could safely house my canine companions in the front yard or in the confines of my home in a sanitary manner I would.

I spend countless hours studying the breed and try my best to better the breed with each coupling. I do this in my back yard !!! But I'm no back yard breeder .

I'm a reputable owner of Celebrity Cane Corso and I stand behind each and every dog I have placed in what I felt were responsible homes. Now sometimes the dog doesn't fit the person and has to be replaced. I'm a business man of integrity, I do my best to exchange the dog for a dog of even greater quality if possible. Yeah I breed and house my dogs in my backyard but I don't consider myself a puppymill nor a irresponsible backyard breeder. I'm a medium scale cane corso breeder who does his best to follow the standard and maintain the quality of my beloved dogs or raise the bar with my incredible dogs .

What's your opinion ?

The last week around my crib I have had much to be delightful for ...

The first thing that brought me joy was the end to the war between my babies mamma and myself . Of course I'm still in child support court. But I actually have come to terms with that. Especially after having the boys terrorize my refrigerator and raid my wallet over the last 8 days. I have developed a great amount of respect for the job that she does with these bottomless pits . The child support order pretty much is just enough to feed them ... and I'm not playing . I have spent over 300 dollars in feeding them grocery store grub. I 'm not even counting the couple of trips to Popeye's, BK and Mickey Dee's. Of course I can't even complain seeing she does this 24/7 365 right ?
When I go before the judge in a couple of weeks I'm going to surprise the hell out of the courtroom and tell him I'm not paying enough ... and he can increase my support as long as he makes a decree that when she brings them to me .. support is suspended and she has to leave some loot here for me to feed these gluttons .

So since they are here and I have to feed them ( and they don't have jobs though they eat like they did double shifts at the GM plant ) ... I have them helping me here at Celebrity Cane Corso Kennels . The disgust that the older boys have on their faces each morning when I wake them is priceless. I've explained to them countless times that the dogs are one of the reasons that when they ask for things they don't get turned down. So cleaning up pup poop shouldn't be questioned relished as much as a New Nintendo Wii. I spare my namesake from dealing with the dogs . Not because he is too high and mighty to scoop up canine crap but because he is so good on the internet and as a writer ( really it's amazing how this 11 year old flows) I give him assignments to complete in efforts of nurturing his gift.
Xmas Day was special even though I have long told my kids there ain't no damn Santa Claus ( the idea of some other man getting credit for my gift giving has never sat right with me !!!)
One of my dogs delivered 11 pups ... as of this writing only 5 are thriving but it's all good nature and natural selection has it place and a definite will that I respect.
My Crew got a chance to see me help life come into the world ... I can't be for certain but i think they got a kick out of it and I earned some points with them . Not that the points with them mattered but it did ya dig ...

I'm not gigging so far for New Years Eve ... well not at a club ... But I'm having quiteThe Cortney Gee Experience right here in my home handling my pups .... and my PUPS!!!!

Yesterday a breeder of French Mastiffs contacted me wanting one of my corsos . He asked if I would consider trading for one of his pups. It didn't take me but a minute to accept his offer ..truth is before I bought Gotti I was looking for a Turner and Hooch like dog so ...

Last week I was pleased to have Lolita and Damon adopt one of my pups as their own...
I'm sure he is happy to be in such a canine friendly home .. Hell Lo feeds her dogs biscuits and grits a far cry from kibbles and bits ( I actually feed a high quality dog food here but I needed the rhyme ) they eat in my kennel.

The weather is beginning to be almost cool enough to get out in the outdoors and enjoy it . You might be able to tell from the pic Im growing a scruffy beard and walking one of my pups Celebrity’s Gina around . The temperature around here has been at a solid 64 for the past few days so these long sleeves will be but a memory soon and so will these fucking jogging pants ... not like my out of shape ass has been doing much jogging ( who am I trying to fool I haven’t jogged in years).

I just don’t see the point in running just for run sake . I try to conserve that energy just in case I need to break away from a crazy ex girlfriend or the police .
